I was invited to a camp in Grand Isle this weekend and we wanted to do a little gigging.
I do a ton of fishing but I've only been gigging once but too young to remember.

Is there an art to this? Is a light you hold under the water better than a lantern?
I made a contraption last night that I think might work judging by what I seen on the internet.

I think that's just a random commercial on the tube.

Clearly, he was doing sweet ninja turtle moves with those two swords on the ground and his blue on which should mean his testosterone is high, right?

Hard to tell how bright that light is but we have a couple older similar setups with halogen bulbs that are pretty bright. The brighter and wider your pattern, the better. It's been years since I've gigged but I want to start bringing all our stuff when I go to the island.

It's a 200 lumen LED light. I hear don't use a regular headlight, cant see much. I guess because of the glare?

It was a commercial during the LSU game last night.
My testosterone is fine.

You didn't explain the excess keys question.

Ok.. I have a clip on my keys for when I'm in my boat I have a spot I clip them so I don't lose them.
When I was putting together this gigging light, I clipped to my belt loop because I hate having a pocket full of keys.

Use the stuff with all the tiny bubbles.

They clean the bowl so you don't have too!

If you aren't using a Coleman lantern and burning yourself and breaking mantles, you aren't doing it right.

All of my friends stories are similar. That's what i'm trying to avoid.
Is the beach a good place to start looking or should I stick to the inside calmer water? Just not sure where I can walk on the inside where there would actually be sand and not soft bottom.

Off of 1, on Admrial Craik dr, there is a spot. It's at the end of the road and right next to the USCG station. I used to gig a few back there. It's hard bottom and shallow. I'm not sure if it's legal to still gig back there, it's been quite a few years since I've been there.

I've heard the cut across the pass from bridge side is good. I'm not sure if that new Mercury can travel that far without breaking though............

If they don't work during the week, How in the hell are you going to get it to work on the weekend.(Mercury)

I've actually fished back there a couple times by launching the kayak at the state park, paddling to the bank then just wade fished on the other side. You can also park near the lagoon on the state park and there's a path that leads to that area. You'd just have to haul your gear a decent way to get there. Or if you have a boat I'd imagine you can just anchor near the sandbar at the entrance and just start there.

I always drove my truck and walked like 50 feet. Those lagoons used to drain through the rocks with tidal movement. That is where I had my best luck. I never hammered them back there, but picked up a few and it's a super easy walk when the surf is up on the beach.

Edit: I parked on the side of the road by the USCG station.

I've read this entire thread and I still don't know if I'll be wasting my time going out there with a flash light.

BTW I've never done this and it'll just be for fun. That being said I love Flounder.

I had never checked it out from the street but will have to look into it, certainly seems easier to get there that way. I'm going down the last weekend of May and am bringing gigging equipment. We've done well in the surf before but only if it's flat calm and the water is clean, I've heard about the spot behind the Coast Guard station for probably 15 years now but never got to check it out.

How about the area behind Elmers? I know the beach is off limits at night and they'll give out tickets but is that large flat off limits too?
