Looking for suggestions on making a good flounder gig without having to weld anything. Any advice is appreciated.

Nail epoxied to the end of a broom handle. Gig them and put your hand underneath and throw it in the cooler

Love the idea of a broom handle cause it will float if dropped but why not nail the nail in and use a grinder to sharpen the head?

In Louisiana you can use a 5 prong gig. Grab one at academy, attach to a broomstick. You'll lose less flounders with this gadget especially since the prongs are barbed.

I use the 5 prong on a 12ft x 1.25" dia pole. I use it as a push pole and a gig since I do my flounder fishing from a bateau with underwater lights on the bow.

The other route is to hammer a 6" nail into the end of a broomstick or 1" dia pole and then use a grinder to sharpen the head side of the nail.

Seems like that would be easy to pull out. I probably try to find something a little harder than a nail, seems like it would bend easily.

For me ideal seems would be an aluminum handle with a cap on one end, drill a hole in the cap and run a bolt through it and sharpen the bolt with a grinder.

I have no idea though, no gigging experience here.

Nailing it in would likely split the end on the handle. If it didn't the expanding and shrinking of the wood when wet and dry would cause it to loosen eventually.

Dang, now why didn't I think of that?

Not if you hit the point of the nail with the hammer, first...AND used the right size.

We use brass brazing rod. Flatten one end and drill for your float line and sharpen the other end to a point on a bench grinder.

ETA: Just stick them and hold them to the sand. Slide your hand under them and slide them over the rod and onto the line.

This is probably the best idea so far.
