Old jon boat trailer my dad bought back in the 80's that we've used to haul pond hoppers for years. The frame is still rock solid and it's got some sentimental value so I decided to give it a facelift.

Before:

Here I had already removed the bunks, axle, and old leaf springs, but it gives you an idea what kinda shape this thing was in. The bearings were gone (in fact one whole tire/hub had come off during a recent trip through a cow pasture), and every single bolt was frozen solid. Gave it a bath in PB blaster and tore it down before sanding and wiping with acetone.

After:

New paint job, bunks/carpet, hubs, tires, and leaf springs. Left the original stickers, thinking about touching them up.

This is the part I'm most proud of. Finding a winch stand that will fit a small flatboat well is kinda tough, so I decided to just make one. I slapped this together Saturday night with aluminum flat bar and angle, and it turned out surprisingly strong. I could have had someone weld one out of steel but I wanted to be able to change it later if it didn't work quite right, and the aluminum was really easy to work with. Loaded the boat after taking these pics and it fit like a charm and held the bow snug.

All told I probably spent too much money on this little project considering it's just a jon boat trailer, but I was really happy with how it turned out.

Looks great! Needs lights and reflectors and it will be road worthy.

I know the feeling. I fixed up Dad's old heavy equipment trailer recently and expected it to take me 2 full days. 4.5 days later I was done.

Ill post some pics in a bit.

Awesome job. I've been wanting to do this with a utility trailer. Problem is I don't have a utility trailer that needs fixing

I can't say I'd recommend it, but it was a good learning experience.

Finding the right sized parts can be a complete and total headache, but if you took your time and really shopped around online it wouldn't be so bad. Once I got started, I wanted it done, so I ended up making a bunch of store runs that I could have avoided if I had planned things out. In hindsight two weekends with a list of parts to order in between would have been a lot better strategy.

Nice job.

Started building a trailer for my sawmill last week. Got the mill installed, just need to add some stabilizers and paint.

First, had to cut the axle and reweld it up.

Built the bed which is 301/2" wide by 18' long.

Then install the mill.

Of course I had to sandblast and grind up on the rims and bought two new tires.

Oh, I had to deal with this after I moved the sawhead up to the house. I open the blade guards and this was rap around one of the wheels.

Dam little brown dog took it out in about two seconds.
