The girlfriend has been wanting me to take her fishing for awhile now but unfortunately, I don't have a boat. Thinking about heading to Ramah tomorrow morning and trying my luck there. I haven't been since I was a kid and really don't remember where we fished once we got off the exit. Anyone been lately? Any luck? Any advice?

I know the water is really high there now, but when it starts falling try the bar pits on the spillway side. Look for thick grass and clear water with free weight red june bug zoom worm

What about bream and catfish? Any luck catching those at Ramah? Even with the high water?

yes it is, and I haven't seen the usual crowd gathered around the landing fishing from 5 gallon buckets.
Not sure if thats a good indication of the fishing or not, but if a bunch of old people with cane poles give up on a spot it must really suck

Bump.

If not Ramah, anywhere else within 30 min of BR to do some bank fishing? There has to be some damn ponds someone will let me drown some crickets in...

Waddil has some ponds open to the public, but they're catch and release.

Yeah, I had another friend recommend Waddil. I fished there when I was a kid a few times. What about Spanish Lake or Bayou Manchac? Think there is any fish out that way?

Spanish Lake is almost no more. Iberville parish drained it.

That place had no fish in it anyway.

I took my wife to Henderson this afternoon and the bream bite is still pretty good. A lot of small ones though. But you'd need a boat.

You might be able to bank fish at Kern's Landing on the Lafayette side of the Lake. Lots of Kayak guys launch there.

Be careful. Saw quite a few gators.

FYI: Not much luck at Ramah. Like everyone said, the water was very high and it was hard to find a decent spot to fish. Did catch a few bream and one small cat. Watched some old black dudes next to us catch a big arse gar, which of course they kept.

Had a good time though, will try again when the water comes back down...

Well at least you didn't get skunked.

I'm going back to Henderson in the morning. Gonna try for bass early early in the morning. If I don't have any luck after a couple hours I have some more worms to drown.
