My dad got himself a used boat this year and is now an amateur fisherman. When I say amateur, I mean very amateur. He's still learning the ropes and whatnot. He's got a rod and reel he wants, but I'll likely let him get that so he can get exactly what he wants. Is there anything I can get him that'd be a sweet little gift he'd likely never think about that costs around $40?

All else fails, I've got an Abu Garcia rod picked out I plan on getting but he'd have to get the reel

He goes down to the rigolets a lot. So I reckon salt. Or brackish. Please pardon my ignorance

This is the reel he wants

Would this rod be suitable for it? I'm clueless about this stuff

Get him one of those grab it gloves with the retractable pliers and belt. Academy has them for $30.00. Spend the other $10 on stuff like baits, fish clicker counter, long pliers, or a fish measure stick.

The Garmin Factory Outlet Store online is having a huge sale right now... You can get an Echo 100 for ~$60 right now and it'll ship for free... Amazon has the Echo 101 model for ~$70 right now and it also ships for free... My dad has needed electronics for his John boat for years so that's what I bought him yesterday.

Thanks fellas. All solid suggestions. Decided to go with marine speakers, as the speakers that were on the boat when he bought it were both busted to hell and sound terrible

Gonna get a few small things such as lures and stuff as well

Some hook and loop straps that he can screw down, to hold ropes out of the way.
He might need a dry box for paper work and emergency stuff.

Self inflating life jacket. Beats drowning to a kickbutt stereo.
