not to kick that anthill again, but does anyone know if there is any action in the legislature to address this issue? I've done a search of the bills on the legislature website and only see one, which was withdrawn.

I kinda expected to see some legislative action in light of the attention this has been getting recently. Am I just missing it?

TIA

Doubt it. The people that own marsh and mineral rights in the marsh aren't about to let their interests get pushed aside over fishing. At this point it's pretty settled and the money is on the side of the landowners. It sucks for fishing but I doubt anything ever changes substantially.

If you followed the signs, fishing Lake Verret would be all but impossible.

Someone started a petition, but I can't remember the site. I think you can find it if you dig back through Louisiana Sportsman articles from earlier this year.

Optimistic for a curmudgeon, my source says that since LGBTs aren't involved it won't be addressed this year.

The bill that was proposed was withdraw, and after reading it, I agree it needed to be pulled, didn't do what is needed.

Same for kayak fishing. It wouldn't exist outside of a few WMA's and a couple of pockets of public land within paddle distance if property rights were enforced.

Delacroix would a be all but completely gated off as well. The only legal shallow water fishing east of the Mississippi would be canals some guy in a canoe mapped out 200 years ago, the Biloxi Marsh which in itself is privately owned and leased to the state, and outside bays.

An optimistic estimate of all shallow water marsh below hwy 90 would be somewhere in the 20% range, give or take. I personally believe it's probably closer to 10% due to silted in canals that are public but non navigable so there are parts that are unreachable.
