I am about to purchase my first pistol. After much testing I have decided to go with the Glock 19 Gen 4. Does anyone have a go to cleaning kit you use? Also, how often do you use the back straps?

Much appreciated.

Excellent choice. Can't go wrong with a Glock. My first...and second...and third were all Glocks too.

2 G-19's and a baby glock.

Don't understand the question on back straps though.

The Gen 4 have the back straps that clip to the back of the handle correct? I am asking how often you use them?

Testing consisted of shooting, taking the gun apart and statistical research.

Cleaning- bore snake, hoppes 9, a toothbrush, and a few Q tips is all you need

Ihave Gen 3's but I use the back strap every time I put one in my hand. The backstrap is the back of the grip.

I'm sure it did not consist of shooting a heavy, expensive steel pistol with an inferior magazine capacity.

Congrats on your first pistol. Be sure to be safe and practice regularly. If you aren't well versed in firearms, it would certainly benefit you to take a basic shooting course.

I just use Breakfree CLP to clean my guns. But most of my guns are dirty for the most part. I clean them every couple months. Good guns run just fine dirty and I'm sure yours will be no exception.

I understand they are rugged. Just want to make sure I keep everything oiled and cleaned that needs to be.

nice thing is that it comes with a barrel cleaning rod and patch holder. you just need to get some ballistol, gunzilla, hoppes, etc.

very solid choice on the G19.... did you happen to check out a walther ppq by any chance? it's a very similar gun with a few major improvements(trigger, ergos).

Whoa, watch the oil there, Pilgrim. Not much oil with a Glock. Hicock 45 has a good You Tube on cleaning a Glock.
