Not sure what to expect. Not looking to buy necessarily but would if I saw the right deal(s). Any advice? Things to watch out for?

There are no deals at guns shows, only expensive guns, jerky and roasted peanuts...

Jerky, tons of "Guns that Hitler used to kill himself", and $145 Anderson stripped lowers.

WEll if it's anything like the few I've been to, prepare to be disappointed and out $7 for not a damn thing. Keep and eye for the loopholes.

And lots of very low quality pocket knives

I forgot about those... Sometimes there is a duster. vacuum thing-a-bob. I haven't been to one in years, but it is always the same crap.

Anyone ever sell firearms ammo at one? I have some I may relinquish.

It's like going on a blind date. Go in with low expectations and if you find a deal then be happy.

Good to know. I'm all out of jerkey so I guess I'll still go. I think it is only $9 to walk around. Maybe decent people watching?
What about a survival expo?

Back in the day they were fun, but they all suck now

I got a sweet mosin nagant sling, bayonet, ammo pouches and oil can for $15 a few years ago.
In other words, you may find good deals on crap like that, but don't expect to come home with a 50 cal you found for $300.

I stopped going some years ago because anything good was overpriced to hell. At the time though handguns were pretty gtg but I'm not sure nowadays.

Don't forget to take advantage of the loophole

Gun shows were fun as a kid before the OKC bombing took place. You could find all kinds of books on how to make bombs and kill people with your hands.
Also it was interesting seeing the white supremecist groups with booths.
I would maybe buy an army patch or a survival "Rambo" knife.
I won free admission tickets to the gun show in Natchez three years ago and it was the biggest waste of time. Overpriced guns and tactical gear with state fair/flea market vendors mixed in.
I won't waste my time going to one again.

Went to one at the George R Brown convention center in Houston a few years ago. I bought a Taurus model 85B2 and a Smith & Wesson model 638 bodyguard airweight. Both are 38 special +P concealed carry.
I bought them from a gun shop that came in from a small town somewhere in Texas. Cheaper than anything you could get in Houston or on the internet at the time.
Also met a guy who reloads 38 ammo and sells in bulk. Have shot 1,000's of his rounds and have never had a bad one.
Next time I went I bought 500 .308 rounds. Also got seven of the most awesome back scratchers I have ever seen - $1.50 each. Thick and heavy - I kept two and the other five made great gifts.

Can someone explain this "loophole"
Posted on 7/9/16 at 5:34 am to dirtsandwich
Google is your friend at guns shows.
You have to talk them down of their ridiculous prices.
If nothing else, look at it as an opportunity to get a feel for what you want to order online

Don't expect much. Too often the dealers use them as an excuse to gouge. Internet ruined them. Not even as good for people watching as they used to be.
