I have tried a lot of different calls over the years, some expensive and some cheap. I still find myself grabbing the old Faulks Cedar Cane calls on my lanyard more than anything else...generally either the CA-11 or the CA-22 depending on my mood....

I own several different calls, for close to medium range it's hard to beat the consistency of the dr-85. Long range I use Sean Mann double reed.

42 year old cut down Olt. They are as magical as you may have read about but it takes a long time to learn to blow them right! Then again I am quite partial to it as you might imagine. It's the caller that makes the difference

Those with the DR85, have you modified the reeds or just run it how it came out of the box?

That plus a Buck Garner whistle are the only two calls you will ever need

All 3 of mine are echo's at the moment...xlt, timber and their double reed. Xlt has been the most versatile call I've blown. Grew up blowing haydels but once I learned single reeds I stuck on echo. Two calls I want to try are the lares and a cut down olt. Have heard a lot of good things about them.

My calling is real good when I'm where the birds are.

I've moved the dimple on the top reed back a little. Those calls are difficult to mod (for me) without making them sound like shite.

I re-tune every one of them if that's what you're asking.

what mod's have you done?

I have a Hobo Hunter, a DR-85, and a Duck Commander 6-1 whistle. I use the DR-85 the most and Hobo for finesse.
