After much debating on this very topic earlier this season, I decided to go with the 130 grain Hornady SST out of my new T3 in 270. Two shots this season produced two dead deer with no tracking efforts whatsoever.
The first shot was at 183 yards and dropped the deer in its tracks. The next one was about 35 yards and same thing.

Core lok is hard to beat. Maybe a more expensive round would shoot better but for 90% of hunting applications you are wasting your money.

I've got over a hundred Core Lokts in the safe. I decided this year that I wanted a better performing bullet and that an extra $.60/ round wasn't going to hurt me. I would've gone with the Nosler Partition if I could have found them readily available.

Core locks shoot very well for cheap ammo in my experience.
I've seen plenty not exit that IMO should have, so I don't use them and don't recommend them.
They're probably the most popular deer bullet in Louisiana so the numbers say you'll see more failures from it, but I've yet to pull a federal power shok out of a deer.

Core lokts 130 gr.
Hard to spend more money on ammo when these do such a good job.

Federal 130gr Nosler ballistic tips for 15 years. Quarter size exit wounds are common.

Winchester .140 gr silvertips
My .270 killed 7 deer this past season and not a single one took more than 2 steps.

This is why I asked. I shot a big doe at about 100 yards with a 130 grain Core Lokt right behind the shoulder and dropped her in her tracks, didn't move. Waited about 15 minutes to go get her and when I approached she was still alive, couldn't get up but still had to take my knife to her throat. No exit wound.
My rifle groups well with the Core Lokts but I may try the 150 grain or another bullet all together.

Nosler Accubond. They won't take another step.

I've never shot a gun that didn't like core locks more than other cheap stuff. It shoots well.
Every one I ever pulled out looked exactly like the picture on the box. A few I had to find with my dog, most died right there. I just can't live with no exits.
