FYI Dixie chopper having financial problems.
They might not be around in the next few years to back their products up.

Sorry to bump a month old thread, but a local dealer advertised he was clearing out his Dixie Chopper inventory.
I went and looked at what he had, and his prices weren't too bad, but I have found better online. He told me that Dixie Chopper was no longer manufacturing new mowers, the parent company was shutting it down, which is why he is clearancing out his product. They will continue to make parts and such for whatever time required.

I'm a little torn. Not a big fan of buying a machine from a company that is essentially going out of business, but they it looks like overall with the pricing discounts currently, you can buy a higher end Dixie for the cost of a lower end from another manufacturer, and they look to have the best warranty, 4-5 years depending on the model.

Would you buy a brand new mower from a company that wasn't making new ones anymore even if it was a good financial deal on that particular mower?

Get a 60” diesel. You can get the used kubotas with maybe 1000 hours for like half price, but he’ll last another 2-4,000 hours with good maintenance

If you can work on it or have a local small engine guy you trust, sure.

Look at scag exmark and kubota... which ever one has a shop closest to you is the one I would go with. All make quality machines but service when needed is the deal breaker to me. Which is why I run an xmark lazer z.
Exmark now makes a batwing style I think 90 something inches and also makes diesel models

We have run Toro 72” rear discharge zero turns for past two years. They average just over 5 acres per hour mowing. The rear discharge requires significantly less hp and fuel especially in heavy tall grass.

I have a Kubota 1211 Diesel 72” and it runs about 10 mph and will cut perfect running that fast. I probably cut 8 acres a week on various terrain and I blow through it. I buy all equipment in Texas and pay no sales tax.

I found a Super Z Hyperdrive demo unit with the 37hp efi Briggs at an out off state dealer with no tax for a price I couldn’t pass up. It will mow at 16mph if the grass or weeds aren’t too tall. My only gripe with it is the rear tires need to be a little wider to more evenly distribute all the weight.

What dealer going to back up Dixie chopper when your not getting paid for service?

What dealer going to stock oem parts for a Dixie chopper when you have other lines you need to support under floor plans?

Most dealers do not have the money to do this. When they find a new line to take on they will have to use their resources to support that line.

Yes, I still have dealerships and saw the writing on the wall a few years ago. Yes, more equipment companies will end up selling off or going under this year as the steel prices are hurting them.

Stupid to suggest someone buy one when bottom line parts will be limited and service lol!

- dealers will not be there to support the product when they do not get paid to warranty the unit or get discounts toward new inventory.

- Dealers that did sell it to you will push you in back of the line to get out product they will sell in the future and get paid on.

- parts people have instock will go sky high unless you by non oem parts.

- then a lot of these Dixie chopper dealers have owners that are close to retirement age which some are choosing to shutdown.

My dad has a Bad Boy Outlaw XP 61" deck 36 hp. that boy is nice a couple problems at the beginning with the wiring harness but once it was fixed she runs like a pearl. I Used it for a lawn service and it cut very well. burns gas very fast when its wide open. I could cut around 4.5-5 acres with a reasonable rpm around 3000-3100 and could do it in about 3.5-4 hrs depending on how wet the field was, with 1/4 tank left of gas.

I have a 52" Bad Boy for 4 acres and I wish I bought the 60.
The only thing I've done in 4 years is change oil and blades and regular maintenance. Mine is bulletproof.
