I'll start off by saying that I'm completely ignorant on the subject as I have pretty much no experience with them. But I've always wondered why anyone would carry one over a semi. Unless you're cocking each time you have that extra pressure on the trigger pull, a low capacity, slow reloading without a speed loader, and this is just personal preference but I've never really liked the fit.

Are they mainly used for fun these days, maybe competition? Or do they still provide a practical advantage in everyday life?

Nothing is more reliable than a revolver IMO

Reliability is about the only reason I would think. I'm not a fan of them

I figured reliability would be a factor, but that wouldn't be enough for me to own one, much less carry or use for the house.

I'm starting to think we need to run an IP lookup on Josey. Probably is old youtuber Hickok45.

As mentioned, they will always go bang assuming the ammunition is OK.

Plus a good number of them are beautiful examples of gun craftsmanship.

I know Josey personally and I will tell you the following about him:

He is no where near as good looking as Hickok

He is a big fan of the Glock

He is such a small frame fellow he is probably scared of the recoil on anything bigger than a 9mm

That would be the only reason I could see getting one, for aesthetic or historical value.
