I don't know if you're a man of faith, but that story could cause a doubting man to rethink his position.
I was always a man of faith and "the feeling" had guided me through many a scrape in the service. But when when you almost lose your kid...your oldest son at that...it's totally different. After my son's shooting, the counselor said he thought the boy would be just fine, but he was more worried about ME!

I was baptized two weeks later if that tells you anything.

I'm not a father yet, but I can imagine.

I trust my gut, like I said it wasn't a worried about not catching fish thing. Any day spent with my kids doing anything is a great day ( catching fish or not ). I never would risk their safety just to fish.

Man my little story aint got shite on you and your son's ordeal. Great to be prepared but I hope I never have to go through anything like that.

Ever here, "damn the torpedo's full speed ahead"? It worked out pretty well for that guy and he had a whole crew of ppl on his boat.

Their are always steps you can take to make sure your prepared for the worst. At the same time it sounds like you second guess your ability to pilot a boat if things should get a little "rough". I'd say just get over it next time and man up and not spoil two kids weekends because daddy got a little nervous.

The only time I ever canceled going out was because hurricane Rita had just hit. Water came all the way up to the second step of the camp. Went out the day after and slaughtered the reds. No trout to be found though.

Yes an hunting trips...

It's much better to be sitting on the dock wishing you were out there...than to be out there wishing you were on the dock
