Euro mount about finished...

Finally got around to pulling this guy out the ant pile. Still had some hide left so I boiled for an hour and it fell off.
I used peroxide at first then some bleach. Still not an even white color. I'll let it sit out all day tomorrow with a coat of bleach.im brushing it on with an old toothbrush.
Can I put a polyurethane over it and the horns to protect It? Is there anything I should do to it?

Great looking job there seapickle. I'm not sure about the polyurethane but I imagine if it's inside away from the sun and in a climate controlled environment you may not need that. I like to tape off the horns and spray the skull with killz but only because I like the bright white skull look.

It needs to be degreased. Put the skull in a bucket with a heavy mixture of blue or clear dawn (1 cup per 5 gallons) and forget about it for a few weeks. Grease will all leach out eventually. Add heat to the water to quicken the process.
If you seal it as is it will be next to impossible to ever get it super white.
Add a little heat to the bucket with a sous vide cooker or bucket heater to encourage the process.
Once it is as white as you'd like tighten up any loose teeth or nasal bones with a touch of super glue, and apply a coat of Elmer's glue or clear spray clear coat to give it a shine and protect from dust.
Nothing is required for the antlers if you are keeping it inside and out of the sun.
ETA: Spelling is hard.

pretty nice looking job SeaPickle...

That yellow bleeding through is grease and fat. Ants eat the meat, but with the brain, eyes, etc left in the skull, it absorbed that fat. Soak the skull in acetone to degrease, then bleach with peroxide paste according to my tutorial:

If you prep and cook it in Dawn according to this guide, degreasing is usually not necessary.

When soaking to decrease can I let the horns touch or do I need to tape them off?

Only time to worry about the antlers is when whitening with peroxide

Report back when done, but great job so far.
There are many different processes that can be debated all day long. Do some Google searching or visit taxidermy.net for some good reading.

Looks nice. I was getting there, until a squirrel got ahold of mine.

4 days of soaking in dawn got a lot of the oils out. I liked the look with a little bit left. Gives it a roughed up look. I think I try some poly on the horns then hang it up

Nice. You might put a drop of super glue on the joints on each side of the nose piece. I've had a few fall out.

i will glue them before putting it on a mount. I want to get some sunken cypress off the swamp lease and use that
