Duramax owners...help!

I have a 2003 Duramax (LB7). It's currently hard to start and sometimes losing prime over night requiring about 5-10 pumps on the hand primer. The Wix filter is relatively new but not brand new (probably less than a year old, but I'm not 100% sure).
I read the multitudes of posts on the diesel forums regarding the fuel heater electrical connector o-ring failure resulting in a leak. I dried that off last night and primed up the system. There was a glistening of fuel from that connector...not really even a weep, but definitely not dry.
Do the OB Duramax owners think this is enough to cause the system to lose prime over night?

Check the o ring under the primer pump itself. Had same problem with mine and eventually died and wouldn't crank at all. Luckily was at tractor dealer and was able to find similar o ring in there shop. Put it on and not a problem since.

Fuel filter housing probably leaking. Mine (06) went out at 200,000+ miles. Was told it is/was common on older models. Under $200.00 to get the whole thing replaced and fixed.

Yeah talked with a diesel mechanic up here and I'm gonna go buy the rebuild kit at the local store (only $24) and let him rebuild that housing (seals). He informed me too that little bit of weepage was enough to cause what I was experiencing.
I'd do the work myself but I'm still recovering from hand surgery on my dominant hand...so $200 will be well spent on that.

I had a 2008 duramax for 4 years and experienced a similar problem. It turned out to be a cracked water in fuel sensor in the bottom of my fuel filter that was allowing air into the system and creating the hard starting. I also had some glow plug failures that would cause hard to start scenarios. Merchant automotive sold a solid billet plug that replaced the fuel sensor for much cheaper than a replacement sensor.

Yeah I'd go that route too...especially since I'm seeing the WIF doesn't work a lot of times.

cracked WIF most likely...but could be the filter head needing a rebuild.
I would NOT recommend the use of Wix filters on a Dmax...Seriously!
The Factory filters are the best for this application.
Plastic fuel filters(Wix/Napa)could be your problem as well...they have been known to leak air and or crack.

Replace the filter housing assembly and don't look back it has a new filter and wif sensor already on it, get the universal assembly with the adjustable fuel fittings and replace the lines also I have replaced a truck load of these over the years.
Wix makes a good filter but they are too small and don't last as long (they plug up faster) than the a/c delco filter.

Rebuild the fuel filter housing assembly and then install an adapter for the Cat 2 micron filters and your problem is solved. Get rid of that crap WIF sensor! I've got an '04 and have been running mine like this for a long time. The 2 micron filter will help your injectors to last longer as well!

Agreed on the filters. I always used factory brand, or Racor (who I believe makes the factory filter) when I had a Duramax.

Check the O-ring. If that isn't the problem, your fuel filter housing is the problem. Common problem in the Duramax. Mine was $500 to repair.

Where do you get Racor filters? Online distributor?
