A man shot a medium sized bear, juvenile, which was walking in a creek that runs through the next town over from me.

Because it was in town other people had seen it and some used cell phones. Dude hears about it and grabs his rifle and shoots it while granma and her grandchildren watch aghast.

Dude was charged with legit crimes and one creative..
Did not have a bear tag. Legit
Shooting game within 150 feet of a house in that town, a bit creative, since no one was really endangered at any time.

Previous town i lived in had a bear that would likewise enter town via creekbed. No one bothered him.

My question to you:
Why would this guy think he could get away with it?
No bear tag. People in town all knew shooter.
There are two street lights in entire town. One at school. One at post office.
The gas stations both have prominent fish and game sign asking people to turn in poachers.

Yes there is an outdoor board. They would want to know what ammo the shooter used.

What do you he was thinking?

Not enough info. What town are we talking about?

I cannot figure out why Louisiana is trying to promote bear population. They are nothing but trouble.

But was it within 150 feet of a house? If so, doesnt matter if anyone was in danger.

Seems like a simple call to the police or wildlife and fisheries cpuld have solved this issue easily

Guy probably has the same respect for people as he did for the bear.

So are Cajuns. We can't kill them on sight.

Owned a gun, like the rest of the gun owning dumbasses that are certain to make headlines soon.

As pro right to bear arms, while not owning even one, this is getting (bear story aside) to be beyond out of control. Was already out of control (sing Mick).

Fire away!

Did he say, "This aggression will not stand, man" before he pulled the trigger?

People these days are getting away with assaulting elderly women and throwing them in a pool. Why would he expect to get in trouble with the judges we currently have?

" ....the situation escalated after Deke Chandley yelled at the bear to stand down. The bear stopped for a moment at the sound of the mans voice but continued on its way up the middle of the shallow creek. Witnesses on the scene state that Chandley then approached the bear from the rear and opened fire with a 12 gauge semi automatic shotgun resulting in the animals death. Chandley told police that the bear was strolling through the creek as if he thought he was the cock of the walk and appeared to be getting cockier and more brazen by the minute. Chandley was arrested and taken into custody and was later released on bail bond."
