Hey guys,

Looking for some recommendations about where to go this season. We are looking for some good places to go around Baton Rouge.

Any suggestions?

Can a mud boat w/ a 9hp long tail make it out there? How long of a run is it to the hunting areas?

Only with a true death wish. Need to run with commercial traffic for quite a way before you could get to stuff where you could use your boat. If you could get to the wax your boat would be good most of the time.

Did you say dog? Hmmm...

BTW, we went to Point aux Chene today. Perfect hunting weather, two hunters, only one duck. Very few flying....

Its his first year. he has about 4.5 months or so of training under his belt and will get one more before big duck season opens up. I'm a decent shot too. My buddy has been talking about going to Point aux Chene a lot lately. How is it normally?

I like Point aux Chene during regular duck season because it is a relatively easy hunt and not too much hunting pressure (outside of opening day, of course). There are always a solid amount of grey ducks and widgeon there and a small boat would have no problems hunting there.

That said, I always have better luck hunting the Wax and don't mind the boat ride (my boat is decently fast) so it has become my preference of the two.

Wax lake is probably the best area, long arse boat ride though.

Best route, but you have to be a warrior. Not a place for "weak at heart"

Sherburne WMA out by henderson is super close and not too bad to navigate with a handheld, but I'd be shocked if you knocked down more than 3 or 4 in a day. Flyways change though... so you never know.

You can kill a quick limit of wood ducks at sherburne... on occasion late late in the season, mallards will land in some of the flooded timber holes. Usually lots of work though for a few woodies.
