Thats been your whole problem. Keep talking down to people and being a smart arse and you will get no respect, reguardless of your personal beliefs. Seems to be typical of people proud to call themselves atheist though. Guess thats what it takes to think there is nothing out there bigger or more important than you.

You think we watch it to appreciate its Christian ideals? Its funny and nothing else. I do appreciate its Christian ideals, but I could watch church or something else if that was the only reason. We watch it to laugh.

Well, many in this thread have stated exactly that, soo....

Oh I know they are. Selling-out can be a huge payday. They're just as much to blame. I'm sure there were many times when they were shooting that someone said "cut, now lets reshoot that scene, and this time how about you guys act a little more redneckish/ignorant".

It's naive to acknowledge that in a country that's primarily Christian where there is a dearth of popular TV that caters to them, a show comes out and caters to that audience is suddenly popular it's not at least in part because of Christians?????

You need to look up the word naive. You have it wrong. Or you are deluded on how big that demographic actually is.

Don, you make some really incorrect observations and seem to have a skewed view of reality. I hope that it's just with DD and not other facets of your life.

you're really off base, and just plain incorrect on this one if you think the success of the show has more to do with an exploitation of southern redneck culture as opposed to the shows Christian undertones.

Am I? There's a few posters who just contradicted you in the past two pages.

While the christian undertones may help drive some of the show, there's just as many out there that watch it to laugh at the dumb southern rednecks. The characters on the show feed right into it, and reinforce the rest of the country stereotypes of the south.

Right. Because this is a long standing formula for funny.

See Seinfeld...

Stereotyping and good characters makes for entertaining TV.

While it pains me to side with a Gump, I have to go with Don on this one. Even the Christians watch the show due to the pretend dumbassery and non-stop hijinks. They just like the lack of cursing and prayers included in the show. If they were watching something due to the Christian message, why not turn on Billy Graham? Put another way, how popular would the show be if it consisted of Phil and family preaching, without all the silliness?

Mind you, I'm not watching until it's just Phil and fam calling on the Ouachita and gunning ducks. I love to see a woodie crumple and hit the water, and a lab swim out there to pick it up. Throwing dekes in a flooded truck delivery pit, not so much.

i think you're partly right. i have read the comments below alot of the articles on duck dynasty and alot of it is the goofiness, cutting up, etc., but alot of it is about the wholesomeness, family unity and faith that they promote. i.e. "the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts"
