Terrebonne Parish resident arrested for taking gun to church.

"Witnesses said Ledet was observed removing the gun from a bag he carried."

LINK

The funny part of the article: "Deputies also plan to charge him with one count of illegal discharge of a firearm because of an incident [18 hours earlier] that resulted in his self-inflicted wound."

I guess that qualifies as adding insult to injury.

So he had shot himself 18 hours earlier and didn't think that might be a sign to put the gun away for a while?

Wonder if said gun had a safety

Shouldn't he place a protective spell over the place or something?

I was wondering the same thing.

At least he didn't fire the gun in church. He seems to be in enough trouble as it is.

in Georgia, I believe we are allowed to CC in church...

ETA: if the institution knows about it and is cool with it then it is ok...

A family member was in that church that day. He said a few people got up and left. When ushers approached him he left with out incident. I was told the priest did not realize anything happened.

Nothing like brandishing the weapon when you're "concealed" carrying.

Every church should address this issue in a private meeting with the elders/deacons/whatever you have specific to your religion. It's a serious issue, and you need a plan.

Odd's are, you'll have a police officer or sheriff deputy in the congregation who could lead the talk and develop a plan for defense and victim exit. Plus get everyone on the same page as to who has CC and will also be armed. The more the merrier...

In Louisiana there's a little more to it:

1. The elders/directors/ministers (whoever has authority to direct the activities of that church) must decide that certain people who have concealed handgun permits will be allowed to carry during services.

2. The elders/ministers/directors must inform the congregation that they have authorized some people to Carry in church.

3. Those who are authorized to carry in church must take 8 hours of "tactical training" every year (in addition to any classes taken to obtain or renew their concealed handgun permits).

I'm trying to remember if this has ever been discussed on the OB.

That's why I recommended a police office or Sheriff's deputy within the congregation lead the meeting and get everything up to snuff.
