Other then getting a allergy pill from the vet, any recommendations for helping a dog that has allergies? He has flare ups when the seasons change, he itches a lot and just seems uncomfortable.

We give him benadryl but that doesn't seem to help him.

We had our yellow lab tested. It was mostly food allergies. It is not cheap, but you can help him out by feeding him something he isn't allergic to.
Some stuff, like grasses or pollens can't really be controlled. We would get her a shot every 4-6 months.

Did the shot help? How much was it?

I have seen dogs have allergies from the kind of grass you have in your yard.

After fighting with itching and biting and trying every sort of expensive food we could find for years we put our lab on an allergy pill 2-3 months ago. Night and day difference.

Shot helped a pretty good bit. I can't remember what it was, but the visit and shot always seemed to be arounf $75-100.

Try switching to a better food. It helps their skin and coat tremendously

Medication may be the way to go in your situation but I would start with his food and see what hes allergic to. Some foods can cause the dogs allergies to flair up or become worse than normal.

What is the dosage you are giving him?

And how often?

Our vet just told us to give ours 30mg of Zyrtec or whatever is available. Most are 10mg pills, so that's 3 per day.
