Any recommendations?
I have a 2 year old collie mix that weighs a little less than 30 pounds.

I used water dog by woltersto train my lab. If the dog has the instincts and drive they will do great.

I made a mistake in reading two many different books, which led to conflicting advice. In hindsight Water Dog was all I needed.

He also wrote gun dog for upland hunting

"A Lifetime with the Working Collie: Their Training and History" by Arthur Allen if it's a Border Collie mix.

Good book, but if OP isn't going to work it (and he won't I'm sure) Wolters is the best bet. I've kept border collies for years and years, and the Wolters approach works really well with them.

And OP one more thing, any collie mix or purebred needs DAILY physical and mental activity.

"the art of raising a puppy"

Get these two books and you are set. Nothing else will be needed.
