Dog Breeding Advice

We have been thinking about breeding my female GSP again next time she goes into heat, we are predicting it will be in the next few weeks. We bred her last August to a proven stud, and she had 6 gorgeous/healthy pups, and no complications for her first litter. I was pretty proud of her. However the stud we have been looking to use this time has never been studded before (he's almost 2). He's got quite a bit of champion dogs in his lineage, and is super smart.
Is the fact that the male has never been used as a stud before something I should be concerned about? Would asking to get a semen test done on the dog be appropriate?

Me and and CP3's dog were both first timers. Fricked like rabbits. Hopefully all goes well in a couple of weeks. But of course we're not trying to breed titles either. Just some good ole huntin buddies.

No, it's not your problem. Some say you shouldn't breed young males because then they think that's their sole purpose. Thus becoming disobedient and not good hunters. Older "proven" males have spent those young years earning titles at field trials, etc., and as a result earn breeding rights later in life.

Yeah, if you don't want to risk her not catching. It's quite common to test fertility in males.
If this is not a serious attempt to get in the breeding business, but more of a I know a guy with a male and we'd like puppies, I say go for it.

If there is one thing the world needs more of, its dogs.

That's all I'm looking for as well. I'd rather them go to someone who will work/hunt them, but if they go just as pets it doesn't bother me.
Tell CP3 if he needs any help to give me a shout. The first few are easy with the pups, its when they get around 5 weeks they start becoming little boogers, and by 8 weeks, I was more than happy to give them to their owners. It's pretty neat being able to see how big they have gotten though.

Yes and no. Her last litter was the first time we have ever bred a dog, and still kinda testing the waters to see if it something we want to keep doing.
If this litter goes as smooth as her first one, I'm sure I'll continue to breed. I only have one female right now, but will probably get another one later on down the road. I don't want to be a breeder that is constantly wanting to push out pups, but more of 1-2 litters a year.

If you want to keep breeding your dog then you should make the effort to have the dogs get the eye (CERF) and orthopedic certifications (OFA radiographs). You want to know your dog is passing on some good genes.

Let me know if you breed her, I'll be looking for a GSP around the end of the year.
