Does lime actually keep snakes away?

Walked/jumped/nearly pissed myself going past a copperhead hanging out on the side of my walkway tonight. By the time I got the shovel out the garage he was gone into the ivy that lines the walkway.
Had a few people tell me lime will keep them away, any of y'all have experience with it?

Your best bet is diesel and a match.

Moth balls work, but they can't get rained on leech eerywhere.

And they are not effective on all species, one being the cottonmouth.

Get rid of the Ivy. He is likely hunting dinner in there And will make a habit out of it if he finds what he is looking for.

Yeah I been meaning to. Just so much damn work with the hillside here it's impossible to sod and mow. :(

FIFY
Just have the balls to pick him up, put him in a pillowcase, and relocate him to an isolated area.

It's Napthalene. The main ingredient in Moth Balls and Snake-a-way.
It's not that it keeps them away, it just irritates their skin and they'll most likely move to another location. That said, it's not a force field.

Did you at least gets your kids and pets out of the house before you burned it down?
No way I'm letting the night end without me or that snake being dead.
