Great, great store. I really wish places like that were still around.

Anyone know what happened to the polar bear?

The polar bear is sitting in the main lobby at Lipsey's.

I was young when it closed and it was a hell of a store for its time, but the memory might be greater than reality...

I totally agree. If business operated the same way today they'd be so better off. They'd have a loyal customer base for sure. Simple concept that no companies get anymore.

I got Roland Martin to give me an autograph there in the mid 80's. It said "To Bobabooey's brother, who taught me everything I know about fishing." I gave it to my brother on his birthday. I found out later that he threw it away because he thought I faked it.

he finished a cup of coffee in one of those small styrofoam cups...put it across the room and consistently flipped a bait into it from about 30' without tipping it over...

While at LSU 68-72, we would go over there and just drool cuz we couldn't afford anything but shells or fishing tackle. First exposure to taxidermy also. I remember that bear. Friendly folk there also.
Wasn't it near the old Pastime?
