Argument at hunting camp

In addition to the tags that come with your license, do you have to tag deer that are cleaned in you ice chest?

I believe your camp is considered the same as getting the deer to your house (at which point you can process it and don't need it tagged)?

Don't have a camp so don't know.

Deer has to be tagged with the tags received when purchasing your license before removing from kill site.

As far as after the deer is cleaned I know at processing plants the tag stays with the deer until processed. Now whether that's a CYA deal or law I don't know. If it was me I would keep the tag with until in the freezer as well call in the harvest.

I think they are referring to the Resident game possession tag. The tags are the back pages of the pamphlet. " No person shall give, put or leave resident game animals or birds at any place or with another person unless the resident game animals or birds, or parts of the resident game animals or birds, are tagged by the hunter with the following information:"

The club I was in kept piles of these tags torn from the pamphlet because we regularly split the deer up amongst the members. You had to have this tag with you in case you were driving home with a hind quarter or something. The actual deer tag stayed with the Hunter that harvested the deer.

Once the deer is back at camp and cleaned, the tag can be re-used for your next kill provided it is kept clean without defects. True story.

So if you hand your neighbor a backstrap, a tag has to go with it?

technically...if they have it in their possession it has to have the info with it...

we used to just have the hunters name and number...what it was and when and where taken written on a piece of paper when we split it up at the camp...
