Sent in a 2009 pair of tortoise framed Brines with 580P lenses.

The problem was the rubber padding on the arm where it rest on your ear. It had worn, cracked and finally began to break apart.

They call me 3 days after I sent them in with 2 options.

Option 1: $11 to replace the arms. I get back old lenses and frames.

Option 2: There's actually also a problem with my lens coating(I didn't ever notice a problem other than a scratch or two). $11.95 for the warranty lens repair and $25 for new frames.

Basically, option 2 is a brand new pair of glasses for $37.

I chose door #2.

What would you have chosen?

Eta: Should have them back in 6 to 10 business days. Total time of process from start to finish will be about 3 weeks.

As posted above. Their warranty still perplexes me.

This is my second go round. This time I thought the arm rubber seemed like a defect, but it was classified normal wear and tear.

I was told the lenses were defective and that I was given a discount from $69 to $25.

The first time, I sat my glasses down while cutting down a tree and smashed them into 6 or 7 pieces. Only the lenses survived. For about the same $36 bucks I got new frames and arms, but my old lenses back.

I'm an idiot... Just went and re-read the e-mail. The lenses were the $11.95 warranty processing fee. Then $25 for new frames.

Brine
Frame Color: Tortoise
Lens: Copper 580P
Perform Repairs
Warranty Repairs Cost
Lens Damaged $11.95
Optional repairs Cost
Frame Damaged $25.00

I'll let you in on a secret. They produce these glasses for $10 give or take and the masses buy em like they come with a personal OT10 hooker (myself included). So you would have to "take advantage" of the warranty 10-20 times before they come anywhere close to losing money on you.

This i had a pair of discontinued frames break. They offered me any like pair of brand new nylon framed sunglasses for 50 bucks. Got a brand new pair of cuts for 50 bucks.

So if you ever see a broken discontinued pair scoop them up or you can probably buy a close out pair from www.sierratradingpost.com for a discount break them "fishing" and get a brand new pair of choice for less than actual cost.

I feel like I got reamed. I payed the 11.95 process fee, plus 99.99 to change one of the shattered lenses. Plus freight to them. The rubber buffer piece where the glasses fit on nose was getting worn down, they didn't even look at that.

You feel correct because you did get reamed. I sent a pair back for an arm that broke off and only paid the processing fee.

It was either have what was a near 300.00 pair of glasses that I couldn't wear, or spend damn near half to use them.

I've done it twice for two pairs I have and my dad had a pair that was easily 10 years old and needed new arms and lenses for a defect and it was only 11.95$ not a bad warranty

So, you are telling me that if I send in my Costas that have a broken arm, that they will replace them for $11.95? Right now I have tape melted down around the broken spot. They are my fishing/outdoor pair of sunglasses.

So they'll try to charge me $100 if I send in a pair with a crack straight across the middle of one of the lenses?

My lense was shattered from dropping. So it wasn't due to a defect or unusual wear. I would still think it would be 99.99

10 years ago I bought a pair of costas that I can't remember the name of. They had a similar rubber issue that came apart. Well after owning them for 5 years I filed a warranty claim. They said they were discontinued and told me to pick out a new pair. I got a new pair of harpoons then. Had the harpoons for 5 years and started to get some delamination on the frame by an eye piece. I just sent them in and they replaced the frames under warranty. I paid $60 to upgrade the lenses. Costa warranty is the truth.
