I have no clue with these wild temp spikes but we have basically been over 68 for weeks except for last week

There's been a couple caught, certainly hasn't started yet but could be any day. Most likely be another week or two though.

Has anyone ever tried to catch one out of a yak?

They'd be really hard to spot out of a yak. You'd have to anchor up and chum for them. And you'd be anchored right on the bar where 200 boats were trying to cruise looking for fish. Seems like a bad deal.

They catch them pretty frequently, but mostly incidental.

I've seen those guys on Ling watch. What's the deal? I assume they are catching big sows coming in to spawn?

No. They're just migrating. The come up from S FL and follow the coasts E to W on their way to spawn off Louisiana. The reason the sport is so popular around Destin is because the water is so clear you can spot them and cast to them.

A buddy of mine deploys FADS. Basically he anchors PVC pipe with a blue tarp stretched out behind it. He puts a line of about 5 of them maybe 2 miles offshore. Not in the lanes right off the beach where most guys cruise for them.

He sets them about 12 feet below the surface where they're not easy to spot. And logs in their location. He just cruises back and forth along the line. When he gets to one of his FADs he slows down and jigs or tosses a live bait to it. He crushes them.

Talked to a couple of Captains yesterday from Panama City during our show and there's been a couple caught in last week or so. Though the run has nowhere near started yet.

Both said maybe a couple of weeks

My guess is last week of April first week of May they will be all over Horn, however Gorenflo's Shootout will bring at least one week of shite weather.

Pensacola here and friends are going out every day now. A few scouts it seems but the herd has not shown yet.

I'll be in navarre may 17-20. Will they be around there by then? Thinking of booking a half day charter to try for some.

Should be, but I would not call myself the fish whisperer.

They will be all over the coast, never fished for them that far east that late though, perhaps someone else can chime in .
