Has anyone taken the time to do this?
Does anyone think it's that important?

What did you use to remove odors?

I would think it would amost be impossible. If they are leather then it may not be doable.

I buy some cheap boots from walmart and use them exclusively for hunting. Cheap boots work fine for me as I don't have to walk any distances. Also wear tennis shoes in early season warm weather. Treat those the same way as I do hunting clothes.

nope...my choice for hunting boots would be rubber knee boots, because they leave no scent trail at all if stored properly. can't wear them for work.

How do you store them? In a Rubbermaid container?

Wear whatever you want. A deer can smell you no matter what you wear, whether its leather or rubber, you are still leaving a trail of scent behind you. Myth busters already did a segment where they wrapped the guy in a plastic suit and a gas mask and a dog still found him. You cant fool an animals nose. Stay downwind.

Remove the soles and soak/wash em in lysol all purpose cleaner. Let em sun dry then soak again with your best hunting odor-block body wash and then sun dry. I completely cleared stink bait from the inside of a backpack and trunk.

Wasting your time if you try to remove the odor. A cover scent would be more effective. If I hunt an area with cows, I try to get a little cow patty on the bottom of my boots walking into the stand. Once you are in the stand, you're toast if they wind you anyway. Having said that, I wouldn't try to hunt in a pair of work boots that had something as pungent as heavy gas oil or diesel on them. I could smell that stuff in a hurricane.

I don't deodorize anything, dip, smoke, play on my phone, beat my meat, eat whatever the hell I want in the stand and still kill deer. Including my climber with my bow. Half of that shite is worthless and just a gimmick to take more of your money.

If you pay attention to the wind direction smells don't matter anyway.

Some days there is no wind. And early in the morning your scent is going straight down. It absolutely matters to be as scent free as possible. There are days when you can get away with smoking and being loud and drinking beer and walking to your deer stand in diesel soaked work boots and yes people do it and kill deer. They don't know how many MORE are out there that didn't come in because they were busted from afar.

Buy some rubber boots or some cheap shoes just for hunting It's just another minor expense and peace of mind.

yes, I usually store all of my hunting stuff in a Rubbermaid container that has been aired out for a few years....generally put a couple of handfuls of cedar boughs in when I close it up, too. don't know whether I am really doing any good or not, but it makes me feel good.

You can try to be as scent free as possible, but if a mature buck can scent check a scrape from 100yds away, you better believe he can smell you from that far also. You have to know where the deer travel and be downwind of that. If you walk through his travel route, once he passes through he will know you were there. If he is stupid he will continue into your ambush, but usually they arent so stupid.

Be a tree. I had them almost step on me last year. I use the scent wafers pine spray, pine soap, and pine oil. I even put pine oil in my shampoo. I smell like a freaking tree.

Still get busted a few times every year but usually good.

Forget anything they sale on the shelf for odor elimination. Go buy 30 dollars worth of baking soda and your done for boots, clothes...etc.
