Can anyone provide insight to the deer and turkey hunting from experience or know people who have hunted in Northern Arkansas, namely Searcy County or around those areas?

My dad is prepping for a move up there and will have some acreage and being that I've never been to the state, I have no idea. A quick google search shows promising results, but I figure some of you arky fans might give better insight. Thanks.

Turkey hunting should be excellent. There are high numbers of deer there but it's not really known for management for trophies

Whew. I was worried you were having to move up there.

That being said, I have nothing to provide.

Quick hijack- you have any recommendations of places to go fishing down here in Austin? Just moved back. No boat yet, so I'm limited.

Should be huge numbers on deer and turkey. Not going to be man monsters but some will be there.

Any type of hunting that you can legally do is 5x as good in Arkansas than it is over here in Louisiana, especially waterfowl. Arkansas is absolutely loaded with deer as well so you'll see plenty, just not many monsters.

My family owns several hundred acres in North Central Arkansas. The turkey are thick up there right now. I was up there a few weeks ago and every time I was outside working I would hear gobblers. There are plenty of deer as well but the monsters are few and far between. The soil conditions are poor up here but I'm working on getting some food plots established in the hopes that will peak the natural genetics in the area.

My family had a lake house on Norfork Lake for a few years. Turkey has always been great, but I'm not a big turkey hunter. I killed my first deer with a bow up there, but as others have stated, it's not known for trophy deer. This was in Baxter County, AR around Mountain Home.
