deer feeder trough for rice bran

Thinking of building a covered trough. Been feeding in an area and they are tearing it up but I hate to see a pile of bran get ruined because it rains a bit.
However I'm concerned about how long it will take for the deer to get used to the whole covered contraption. Anyone one have some experience with that? Would hate to spook them off after I've been feeding them for a while.

Typically takes the does and young bucks about three days before showing up, mature bucks about a week and only at night in my experience

Wouldn't mess with it. If they are tearing it up leave it alone. Do t do something to mess it up

Don't do anything right before the season starts. Wait until it's the off season to try a new feeder otherwise you are for sure gonna spook them.

Throw it out there. It'll pay for itself sometime this season. Have had mature bucks act dumb with their head in a rice bran trough.

U are going to thank me for this. Take the rice bran and mix about half bag with couple bags of powdered suger, one of brown sugar and about 6 packs of grape or cherry Kool-aid, pour into little piles, top off with bottle of vanilla. U will not have worry about rain, etc, they will run your arse over to eat it. will never last more than a few days and u can condition them to the smell.
then when u go hunting take a little bag and throw into air make little pile within range. Even old bucks cant resist this.
Do with with that damn sweet potato powder feed and they may maul u before u get it out.
It is like crack for deer.

Lord. I thought the rice bran itself was like deer coke.
I doubt I'll mess with that recipe, but thanks

Should not spook them. It may take them a little while to get used to it but they will come and eat out of it.

You might as well bake them a cake

U can smell it for hundreds of yards on a good day, and it smells great, and yeah it does kinda make u hungry too. Sweet potatoes next best but no real smell

I actually did this today. The damn hogs have moved in and they're eating for hours at a time. Dumped the bran in a deep sided open trough today.
We tried a small trough and welded a roof and sides on it and not one deer has fed at it in about 6-8 weeks. Figured they don't like the enclosed space. We realized that we never had any pics of mature bucks at any of the big wooden troughs at the lease we were at the last few years either.
Got two big boys coming and feeding, and they sure like them some rice bran.

I put this up early september of last season and it didn't take them but a week. One other guy on the lease uses one and it doesn't bother the bucks
I took it down as the coons would sit in it 3 and 4 at a time and clean it out.
The deer liked it. It brought lots of activity but I had just as much mature bucks stop by just dumping it on the ground

I didn't think coons cared much for rice bran. Something about being too dry for them to eat. That sucks.

I think I'm gonna try this

well that was soy beans with the coons. I switched to rice bran and it helped discourage the coons. Squirrels still came 10 at a time
