My dad ran some deer cane through a chromatograph at his work and found it was 99.7% soda ash.

re: Deer Cane
I put some of the "Cane" out for the first time this year. No corn allowed in Mizzou. At first they did nto foll with it much but they have really started tearing it up lately. If I remember I will get a pic of the spot when I go back out.

I wish this was true in Louisiana.

Would make the deer move around more instead of filling up every night at a feeder.

re: Deer Cane

Where can I find this at?

I always just asked at the feed store. I think some people sell it under the name "buck bran"

Around here when the acorns are falling the deer won't touch corn. The guys that do nothing but sit over feeders always wonder where the deer went. I hunt over bait some, but when the deer are on persimmons or acorns and when the rut is on I don't waste my time guarding a bait pile.

There are times of the year when you have to have some bait or cut off deer that are going to bait if you want to see anything. When the food sources are scarce it's hard to compete with the guys with feeders.

C'mere Deer is the best attractant I have ever used. It smells so good it makes me want to eat it.

The best is the rice bran mixed with molassas.

I wonder if deer would go for one of those molasses feed blocks that you put out for cattle? I know my cows loved those things. In any event, if GJ's caught me putting out bait of any kind up here for deer or turkey, they'd confiscate my vehicle, guns, take my license for about 5 years, hefty fine, and jack the jail up, put me under it, and maybe, just maybe, pump air to me. You're not even allowed to feed deer up here for about two weeks prior to and during hunting season. Obviously, baiting must be legal down yall's way. Deer feeders and attractants are not big sellers up here for some reason...

re: Deer Cane
I've checked around and can't find soda ash only pot ash. Most pool stores aren't open this time of year. Maybe rock salt with a bag of brown sugar will do till I can find the soda ash

"Up here" is Virginia. Food plots like a rye patch and high protein clover are legal, but you sure can't scatter corn or pile it up. You can hunt around or in an apple orchard, unharvested corn field or harvested corn field, but you can't throw out apples or ears of corn on the ground. You can't put out salt blocks, mineral blocks, or deer cane, either, for two weeks before and during deer season.
