Shot a greenhead in Swifton, AR yesterday that had a band on it. According to the website he was hatched in 2008.

Pretty surprised by how old he was

Anyways that's it, carry on

a couple weeks back, I shot one banded in 2011. I too was surprised that ducks live that long.

Congrats

In 1997 I killed one that was banded as an adult in 1988. He was at least 10-11 years old.

Last weekend a guy standing next to me killed one that was also banded in 2008.

I have been told that the on average, 25% of mallards get killed every year. But most of that mortality is on first year birds. Once they've made a couple of trips, they're hard to kill, and live relatively long lives.

No way you killed it in swifton, we don't have any birds up here. Quit telling stories.

I also killed one in '97, the numbers were wore off the band. A bull of a greentop.

Google oldest band duck. I think it was a 17 year old pintail that was banded in Japan and killed in Ca.

Wasn't 17 years old and was killed in Mississippi.

But a 29 year can was shot.

There are some really good reads on McIlhenny of Avery Island fame Banded over 280 thousand birds and used to band the birds and ship them on trains to all over just to see if they would come back. Sent one to California and it made its way back Many others did find their way back as well.

Some real cool reads below
