I guess first for that many traps I believe you need a special license. Other than that use cut pogey/mullet for bait, and use common sense as far as spacing, I wouldn't go closer than 10yds. Also make sure you have metal tags on the traps with your information on it, including your trap license number.

I have a buddy who crabs in both lakes. If he catches you touching his traps, he'll shoot your motor....so there's that

FWIW, he's done it a couple of times before

Had a buddy out some traps out in Lake Pontchartrain that ended up getting stolen. I assume the commercial crabbers didn't take to kindly to his traps.

Best thing to do is put them on a long line under water. Mark on GPS and throw a hook to the line. Had too many stolen when on stopper.

If there are traps close to where you want to put yours, I would suggest run parallel to anyone's line.
Stay 30-40 yards away, so you are not fighting for the same crabs.

I always baited traps with fish carcasses that I've saved from cleaning them. Saves money on bait.

I'd be at least 50' away from the others.

Always found specks and Asian Carp work the best. Puts a good scent in the water. (by good I mean good for crabs)

I stay away from using redfish as they are a natural crab predator.
