I wouldn't leave them longer than 2/3 days, any longer than that they will cannibalize each other.

I would like to check every 4 days, but usually end up going about 5-6. I fill it up with pogie and usually still have a little bait in them when I pick them up.

Depends on your trap too. If you have the four funnel with two chambers they cannot get to food once they go up to the top chamber. I wouldn't leave out more than two days without running them. Would take the crabs over a week to die of starvation I would think maybe much longer if they can snag some baitfish
