I found one of those mud snakes slithering into my open garage last year, gently removed him and took him back outside, very docile snake.

I have seen most of the snakes La has except a coral snake.

I think one of the prettiest snakes I have ever seen was a small copperhead. The color was amazing.

What kind is that?

Canebrake

And no, Muddy doesn't come out much even at night in a dark room. He seems to like to hide a lot. The Gray-Band is very active, and kind of neat to watch because he climbs on top of the rocks in his cage and hangs out. He's a piggy though so he's usually looking for a frozen mouse dangling in front of him.

Snakes I have caught in Louisiana and kept as a pet

Speckled King
Mud Snake
Black Racer
Blue Runner
Rat Snake
Corn Snake
Broad Banded Water snake
yellow belly water snake
copperhead
hog nose

never seen a rattler or coral snake, though I always wanted to as a kid.

We called those eels mudpuppies. We'd go catch thme after a good rain in the summer. Had a big one in ditch by my house, prolly about 4 feet long bit my cousin in the hand and he had to go to the hospital and get stitches. They gots teeth.

Alx, i have a confession.

You have helped change me from an unashamed snake killer, to a respector of snakes and its species.

I feel like Paul in the New Testament.

While I don't kill them, I don't get nearly as bent as some here do for snake killing. I know it's going to happen. My crusade is more about identification. Kill all the water snakes you want. I've been bitten enough by those stinky bastards to not really care. I do kinda hate seeing rat and kings killed, but again, it's going to happen. I ain't even mad.

Coral Snake. I was about 10 sitting on a log listening to my Grand Paw's dogs run a deer. I heard a light rustling sound down around my feet and there he/was.

Pine Snake
Coach whip--hardly see them now.
Hog nosed. Had 3 as pets when I was a kid before I learned they didn't do well in captivity.

San Diego County
Ring Necked snake - beautiful

I kill any poisonous snakes and anything that looks too much like them. Kings, rats, etc I don't bother with. I've got a corn snake that lives in my back yard that I love coming across because he's so pretty and even though I jump every time thinking copperhead, it's obvious immediately he's not so he gets to live. But I have a problem with water snakes eating the goldfish in my little pond on the patio. Those get whacked even though I know what they are because they look too damn much like a cottonmouth, they creep me the hell out when I go out there barefoot at night to piss in the yard like a real man, and they eat my goddamn goldfish!

Luckily cats get eaten here by the coyotes and bobcats the instant they get out of the yard. My poor daughters have gone through a ton of cats out here. There's a pack of coyotes that specializes in them.
