Anybody have any experience with CVTs? Looking at cars and some I'm interested in have these transmissions and I'll be honest, I know nothing about them. Are they reliable? Will I hate driving it? Upkeep cost vs a manual?

My wife has had a Nissan Rouge and now has a Pathfinder both have had CVT - no issues, haven't had any additional upkeep because it is a CVT. The only time she says anything about transmissions is when she has to drive my truck she complains it isn't as "smooth"....

Thanks. Maybe the reliability issues I read about were for older CVTs. I'm kinda torn, one car I'm really interested in comes in 6 spd or CVT, but the 6 spd is only in the base model.

CVTs are going to be the standard for all cars come long IMO.
They are just so efficient to not go to.

My girl's Nissan was an 09 V6 maxima with 230,000 miles.
The CVT trans in it before the flood took it was perfectly fine and held thru those miles fine.
That being said I'd say they are pretty darn reliable.

Hate driving it? Depends, If you enjoy a standard car you won't be near engaged driving something like this unless you opt for one maybe with paddle shifters
