My brother is in the market for a concealed carry handgun. I seem to remember some negative reviews on this board about Colt's latest products. It may have just been concerning their newer revolvers though. He really likes the look of the Colt Defender .45 ACP. Of course he is going to shoot several different pistols from various makers to see which feels best to him, but wanted some opinions too. He is an experienced shooter and owns several rifles, shotguns etc, but is not too familiar with the concealed carry market as it sits now. Any suggestions or opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Just picked up a cm9 from kahr. It was slightly used and I picked it up for 280 with a holster. Just ordered a desantis pocket holster for it.

I love the gun. Best trigger I've used on a small pistol. A Glock is undeniable in its reliability. Can't go wrong there.

The m&p 9mm from Smith and Wesson as great as well.

That was a good deal on that Kahr! Yeah, we really like Glock as well. He used to have a 17, but it was stolen from him a few years back. I have a Glock 22 with a Viridian X5l on it. I love mine too, and will probably get another Glock for concealed carry purposes soon. My brother really seems to like that Colt .45 though he hasn't taken one for a spin yet.

I have two concealed guns. Depending on the dress and weather. Ask him if he plans to carry and what is practical and he would carry often.

I have a 45 and have a carry holster, it's to damn big to carry unless it's winter with a coat. It's better to reverse think in this case. Lay out his situations and then tailor a pick to fit his style.

Just over 400 rounds and no issue(s) so far. I carry it in a RAw Dog IWB holster.

What size .45 do you conceal carry?

Good deal. Hickock45 was saying sometimes the extractors aren't tweaked just right, but once you get that out of the way they are a great gun. Any trouble at all when conceal carrying?

STUGOTS,
I don't have any personal experience w/ the newer Colt products. OTOH, I do have 2 1911's in 45 ACP that are part of my cc rotation, an Officer size (3.5" barrel) and a Commander size (4.25" barrel). With appropriate clothing, belt and holster, it's been my experience that neither are a challenge to carry concealed. As long as the Defender is reliable and the owner takes the time to learn the 1911's manual of arms, the gun should be a fine choice for cc. After all, the Defender is basically a small (3" barrel and shortened grip) and light (24 oz as opposed to >35 oz) 1911.

I carry a commander size 1911 in .45 with no issues at all. Also have a 10mm delta elite 1911 that I carry some although only with jeans.

So the 45 ACP that's too big for you to cc is a Springfield XD? As long as it's not the XDs, I agree w/ you entirely. My first cc gun was a 4" XD in 40 S&W. I didn't cc it very long before realizing it felt just too big. I later sold it. OTOH, the 1911 is not at all hard for me to cc. Although it's not much wider, a double stack mag gun like the XD feels much bigger to me than does a 1911.

And BTW, I'm REALLY jealous of the deal you got on the CM9. I've been watching the market for the right price now for 6 mos and I'm still looking. Congratulations! I'm sure you'll be very happy.

I feel it's too large but can be done. I love it.

The cm9 was just unreal the time. I went to get my gun license renewal class and was out looking at a kahr in the case. It was a 380. So I asked the guy if they had the cm9. Someone in there goes what? I just out one for sale online. We negotiated it from 325 to 280.

I felt real happy. Been looking for over a year and I don't have to break it in as the previous owner did so as well as polishing the feed ramp and putting in a better mag spring.

It really is a great trigger and I highly recommend it. The accuracy is way better than I though.

No problem for me to carry. I started with a Sheild and move to the Defender. It is really not that much bigger.

I have a Kimber Ultra CDP 2 .45 and the two holsters I have are the Galco Royal Guard and the King Tuk. Both are really good.

I would also +1 on the Kahr CM9. I have an update review of mine on my YouTube channel (BigAppleGuns) after a few thousand rounds. The thing never stops working and I am quite pleased.

I would recommend a single stack 9mm for comfort, ease of use, and capacity. I'll elaborate more later.

Watch gunbroker. Deals can be had. Someone had one with 3 mags and two holsters for $340. I saw it late at night and went to buy it in the morning and it was gone...

You can use gunwatcher.comand it will search multiple sites at once for you.

Thanks, Bapple! We will definitely check out your youtube channel. Look forward to you elaborating on the single stack 9mm too!
