Cold Weather Clothing Recs (Work in Alaska in November)

I'm going to be working outdoors for the next month in Alaska and was needing some help on recs for thermal layers. I plan to get some thick bibs, jacket, boots up there, but have no idea on the best thing to get for underneath. Any help would be appreciated.

If you're ex-military you'll know what I'm talking about but for boots go with "bunny boots" or "mukluks". I was stationed in Anchorage for 3 yrs and these are the best for your feet.
Ski gloves worked best for me but I wasn't outside working a lot. As a matter of fact, most ski clothing works best depending on the type of work you'll be doing.
You can also ask the people already there what works best for them.

It's not that bad. It's actually amazing how fast you can get used to temps from 10 above to 10 below....serious.

thanks, im waiting to hear from a few guys that are up there now. i googled this and i appreciate it. I'll be a few hours south of anchorage on the coast

Carhartt makes a fleece neck gaiter that's warm. Look for some FR balaclava, those are typically very warm. When paired up with a fleece neck gaiter and toboggan you won't be losing any heat from your head. When I kayak fish in the winter I wear an FR balaclava and a fleece carhartt beanie. This keeps me warm enough, neck gaiter takes it to another level.

Really, to each his own on the layering. make sure you tuck stuff in, so you bottle in the heat. The key is not to over do it, with ultra thick materials and end up looking like one of these guys

Will not be as bad as you think. Down So. the Gulf of Alaska helps moderate temps. In the late 80's I worked on the P/L in Dec and Jan north of Fairbanks (mile post 200). Average temp while I was up there was -22f. Low -40+ high +15. Alyeska p/l provided us with special issue parka and bibs. If you can find a set at surpluus store in Alaska they are the best money can buy. Make this trip an adventure if you have never been to Alaska. Any off time you have explore and enjoy.

yeah coastal AK is relatively mild in November. Kenai is the exception. It's about like Anchorage and will be in the twenties-teens. Seward and homer are warmer
