Climbing stands and icy trees

Anything to be concerned about? Only recently started using a climber and planning to go tomorrow morning but want to make sure climbers are safe on icy trees

If the limbs fall from ice build up, it doesn't matter what kind of stand you are in.
I can't think of a problem as long as you sink the teeth in. It's gonna pop and make noise. Go slow. Sloth slow.

I'd wear a harness as always.

Steel climber would be better heavier but better

Always do, especially since i'm usually out by myself. But since I'm planning on going out there alone tomorrow just wanted to be sure teeth slipping isnt a common occurrence in ice. Rather new to hunting and especially to using a climber so trying to make sure its still safe

climbers have always scared the shite out of me...never had one slip that I could attribute to ice, though.

I don't have any experience with it. If I can get to where I want to hunt tomorrow, I'm going stalking. Might be good if they stay bedded up like others are predicting and will keep me warm. Not sure on your situation but maybe something like that's a better option than risking it.

One recommendation. Make sure you have a rope or strap from the top piece to the bottom piece of your climber that's no longer than you being able to get it if it slips from under you. Can't tell you how many stories I've heard and read on here where someone's bottom slipped and they were left with a seat 20' up and no way to get down.

Speaking of icy trees, anyone think they will shut down the bridges in the morning. Gotta cross the river from EBR around 4:45.

Got the bungee that came with the climber. Forgot to use it once and realized it after being up in the tree for an hour. Havent forgotten since

Public land and gotta go bowhunting since gun season isnt open now in WMas near me. Doubt I'd have any chance of getting a shot at anything with a bow from the ground

I had 8 does come by with 15 yards this evening...I was in a ground blind with a bow....
...I was set up perfectly on a trail I found last week with the wind in my favor - coulda wax any one of them but was waiting on a buck
Go...cause you won't harvest sleeping in your bed
Edit - I had a little buddy heater running in the ground blind as well...

They closed the new bridge in West Feliciana at about dark 30 this evening. Was starting to ice

Maybe climb a pine where it digs in the tree better.

Climb a pine if you have one xlose to the area you want to hunt

Whatever year lsu played Illini in bowl game, had my back to wind, went to comb down and ice had formed on back of tree. Dropped several feet before top part of climber caught. Sycamore tree, all I can say is Pick your tree very wisely

Be careful! I've been hunting in Port Gibson the last few days. We had sleet all day today sticking on everything. The high at the camp today was 27 degrees. Anyhow, the tree I attempted to climb this evening was very slippery! Ice caked on it. I sat in a ladderstand instead.
