Any idea if online or paper app is better, faster?

Online - should you wait until you have everything (all info, training, fingerprints, etc) done to start and complete the app or can you update your app as you go along? Wondering if there's any advantage to going ahead and submitting the initial registration info even if you still have things to complete.

Any other tips, info?

Thanks.

So even getting fingerprints done at the local state police office as opposed to BR will cause a significant delay?

Also, would an arrest that was later dropped when I was in high school need to be reported? Should I call the PD and ask if it's on record? Was about 30 years ago.

I had my permit years ago, but it lapsed and I never got around to taking the class. A buddy of mine offered me a spot in their class back in Jan so I figured what the hell, might as well. A few days later I filled out the online app on 1-21-16 and then went to get my fingerprints done at LSP HQ. The line was so ridiculously long I immediately left. This was post Paris attack when concealed carry type guns were flying off the shelf and everyone was getting a permit to carry. Well, 30 days passed and I think your app expires after that, but the class certificate is good for a year. I had thought about restarting the process a couple of times throughout the year, but always got side tracked. Surprisingly, this morning, 2 months shy of a year later, I got an email from them saying my app was approved with the payment link. I guess they used my old prints since my permit number is the same as my old one, but gotdammit that took forever.

Online is 10 times faster.

Take the class. Submit paper work online. Go to LSP for finger prints. You'll have it in a few weeks.

I would not advise not disclosing the arrest.

Submit everything you possibly can in electronic format. Go to LSP HQ for prints. Both of these aspects are the difference between weeks and months TAT.

Yeah I saw that thread but was wondering if it makes a difference if I was a minor when I was arrested.

I obviously don't mind listing it but I don't think there are any records or other documentation available on it, as the app requires, since I was a minor, it was so long ago and was dropped. TBH I'm not even 100% sure I was formally charged, but I was cuffed, brought to PD, I think fingerprinted, but was cleared a few days later without any other action. No formal appearance anywhere or anything.

(A friend I was out with did something, I wasn't even around at the time or knew he did it until he came running by saying "haul arse!", I followed him and a cop caught us. I was apparently brought in as an accessory, friend gave statement that I had no knowledge of it, and that was it.)

You were still arrested though. I would list it with an attached typed explanation. Chances are if you are not prohibited from owning firearms then it won't effect the outcome of your permit. However, not listing it when it should have been could prevent you from ever getting one. There is also a number you can call to ask questions if you have them and want to be certain on the answers.

The application doesn't ask if you were a minor, or if you were with a buddy who talked you into it, etc."

The app asks if you were ever arrested.

As was said, depending on the violation (bank robbery & murder would be bad) you'll still probably get a permit ------ unless they catch you failing to truthfully list everything.

And to the OP --- apply online.

Hey DevilDog, if you can get somebody to run a background check on you then you will know if that arrest is on your record.

Wouldn't count on that. Most commercially prepared criminal background checks (like the one that's used if you apply at Exxon, Entergy, et al) only go back 3-5 years.

LSP goes back forever.
