I'm making the switch to Black Krim this year. I heard they're more prolific than Cherokee Purples. I purchased all of mine at Stine in Youngsville, but I see them everywhere including Lowes.

Most places that sell Bonnie green house plants have purple Cherokee. I planted a couple last year and they were fantastic, but don't expect to get a whole bunch of production out of these. I think each plant produced about 5 nice tomatoes all season.

That's why I'm trying the Black Krim. I just couldn't get the Purples to make more.

Bonnie green house plants

I just can't pay $4.00 for a plant. I'm a cheap arse but I normally plant over 50 tomato plants. Normally 3-4 of different varieties. I have 30 in the ground already but haven't found any Cherokee purples that's under $3.00.

Bonnie's hasn't put out near as many heirlooms as in the past. I did find Cherokee carbon and brandy boy which are F1 hybrids so I'll see how those go.

Bought a few Cherokee Purples at the Home Depot in Broussard a couple weeks ago. Don't know if they still have any.

I like Stine because of their variety. I don't purchase Bonnie at all. They have local nurseries as well as Chef Jeff's which has many heirlooms to choose from.

I'm a cheap arse too. I'd buy one for $3 this year and save the seeds to plant my own next year. Or just go online and buy seeds.

I don't like growing tomatoes from seeds, but if you want good heirlooms you almost have to.

I planted Black Krims year before last and didn't like them as much as the Purples. My Purples did set a second setting of fruit.
