A trip out there is on my bucket list. Work, kids, cost, etc.. did I wait too late?

Sally's west side has been parked over them for a while. I'm sure Laura's distant passing didn't help.

Supposedly this is 1984 to 2016, although 2019 Google Earth looks like it rebuilt slightly.

I think I saw a video with Chris Macaluso saying the cca was doing a couple projects out there. Hopefully they can keep them around. But with cca you never know

They will just get pushed back but should still be there. Went in May for the first time. Caught about 15 trout but the experience was worth it. Water was so clear it was like fishing in an aquarium.

Yeah, they’ll probably just use that money to restore some private marsh that only the rich landowners can access. Wait that’s DU, my bad, carry on.

Any idea how long from end of mrgo to get there? Looks close on a map somewhat.

You're maybe thinking of the Breton Islands which are not far from the "mouth" of MRGO.

The southernmost island of the Chandeleur chain is about 30 miles (in a perfectly straight line) from the mouth of MRGO.

As for will the islands survive? These storms won't erase them, but in time another few storms + sea-level rise will.

About 20 miles or so.

ETA- but whatever it is, it will be less when this storm is over. The island will roll over itself.

Not terribly far. I might run out there one day.

I was out there a month ago. Don’t worry they will survive.

It’s on my bucket list also, but I wanted to do it with Theopile.

I don’t know if I will ever make it now.

Depends on what part of the chain you want to get to. We went to the north end to the New Harbor Island area and shortest drive time and boat time was out of La France marina in Bay St. Louis. If you want to go to middle of chain like Freemason and Curlew, then Hopedale down the spoil canal is shortest. Finally, southern end is Breton Island and Venice marina is best. I had been to Breton a few times out of Venice, but didn't really count that as a trip to the Chandeleurs. It is kind of seperated all by itself but still part of the chain.

Sucks that Theophile went down but they do have other sea plane services making trips out there.

You should go. There is a handful of ways to get out there and they vary in cost. It's an incredible and diverse spot to fish. It's true island and flats fishing which is totally different than what you encounter around the marsh.

What's the best months? I usually run to the end of long rocks on mrgo. 21 foot frontier.

I am not sure they will be gone forever as the way the barrier islands work is they rebuild themselves but very slowly.

Just after Cristobal earlier in the summer it took quite a bit away from Breton, and made Gossier disappear. I don't personally hold high hopes for there to be a lot left of the islands after this but I sure hope I'm wrong.

I fish out there a dozen or so times a year. It's crazy how much it's changing out there every year. There's a newish breakthrough of the beach a couple miles from the northern point and I'm worried what this storm will do in that area and to all the grass on the sound side.

I saw a graphic somewhere that showed the best months for fishing out there. Cant find it now. Think it had April/May as best time for big trout, May-July best time for trout numbers and October-November best time for red fish.

I fear they took a big ol arse beating this week with the storm just sitting there right off them.

That’s about right, but we’ve also worn big damn trout out in October. I don’t fish it much that time of year because of hunting season but when I have it’s been great. Just a cool experience being out there.
