Search sucks and didn't find anything anyway. Looking for pros and cons of each. The old man and I are looking to go in halves on a used boat between 22-26 foot to fish out of Grand Isle. Looking for something to take on the bays when it gets windy, fish the beaches and some offshore fishing (not tuna runs, maybe 30-60 miles out every once in a while).

22-26 foot cat w/ twins or a 22-26 foot mono hull, any OB suggestions/recommendations?

Cat for sure especially if you're planning to do a bit of offshore fishing.

We swapped to cats about 10 or so years ago and have never looked back. The loss of speed is forgotten whenever you're enjoying the smooth ride and extra fishing area.

I fish on a 33 World Cat a lot and it is a really solid boat, but world cat makes a 26 or 27 that would fit your needs just fine.

It will be a used boat for sure. May have to travel to somewhere in Florida to pick it up though. Tons of cats for sale in FL.

Same here, we have a 33 center console, watch the 27 with a cuddy though. I know when we were looking at boats after our cat was totalled from the hurricane we looked at the 27 but it had problems porpoising and losing plane.

We actually had the president of world cat come down ride on the boat with us and then realize they had a huge design flaw. Took the 27 back and gave us a sweet deal on the 33 for our troubles.

I would assume they've fixed this by now though.

not a fan of the cuddy cabins, seems like you lose too much fishin space

Looking for pros and cons of each

Cat Pros:

Good ride
Fuel efficency
roomy

Cat cons:

slow
ugly

Mono pros:

faster
look good

Mono cons:

rougher ride
less beam than cat

Most charter captains will tell you to get a Cat for offshore applications. If you're staying inshore, the size boat you're in the market for is more than enough for a mono hull. You'll appreciate the ability to run faster.

What is the difference in terms of fuel efficiency? Is it really that drastic vs a mono? I too am researching some cats.

Can you put a trolling motor on a 22-23ft cat? Or is that more of pain than its worth?

Got a co-worker looking to sell a pristine condition 26' world cat with twin 140 Zooks...

email me at cdaniel76@yahoo.com if interested.

ETA: Here's a LINK to an album of pics of the boat if you're interested.

I do not know what he's asking. Only just recently heard he's looking to get rid of it due to divorce.

I'm not a big green person when it comes to fuel efficiency. you get better efficiency in a cat because you're not running as fast and your drag is less. Monos will have to run at higher RPMS to stay on top of waves, but your run time is less.

I disagree offshore. In a bayou, yes. But I have seen numerous cats outrun a "V" hull offshore

This is true, we always get passed by the donzi's, yellowfins and such of the waters on our way out from our camp and through Belle Pass. We usually catch up to most of them about 5-10 miles out on rough days for sure.

There are always those who will beat people to shite just to get out there fast.

When it's slick as glass, mono's are king. It's not slick as glass enough to not get a cat.
