Headed out to Cat Island off Mississippi coast. Bringing the family mostly to play around for the day. Anybody been out that way recently? How's the fishing?Never been out there. Was thinking about hitting the crab traps in the area for Tripletail.

I haven't been in about a year as I rather run to Biloxi Marsh instead. That being said, if you want to catch specs I'd fish the birds on the south side, if you want reds just go into the marsh on either side.
But I can not stress enough to pay very close attention when you get close because there are some very shallow corners

Haven't been out there in years. While at LSU I used to sail out there every once in a while with a friend who I've lost touch with. She and I would camp on the beach and run around naked at night in the wind. Fond memories of that place.
If you are bringing the family your trip will be a little different. I don't know what other people do out there.

Seriously, it's awesome to go out there, my little boy calls it Pirate Island- we make the trip a few times each summer to generally fart off on the beach.
I've caught some decent reds just wading out off the backside beach while my wife and him make sandcastles and other beachy stuff.
