What are the best places to cast net for live bait? Ran out of bait on Saturday and tried cast netting for some with no luck. No lucked throwing into disturbed water, also tried under some birds once we determined only small specks were there.

I find I wear myself out just blind casting.
I like to look for bait popping or rippling in schools before I go throwing and retrieving the cast net.
It also seems early morning is the height of bait activity. If you run out of bait mid day, it's a lot harder to find it.

These "hotspots" are for the Florida panhandle but probably apply elsewhere
Marinas for LY
Spartina grass and the area 50' from shore for Finger mullet, Bull minnows, tiger minnows
Any still, shallow, brackish water for the three above as well
Grass flats for croakers and pinfish, they don't really school up but you can see them rolling in the grass and net 5-15 per throw if they're thick in there with a 6' net
A lot of times we would beach the boat and just walk the shore looking for schools of mullet and bull minnows to throw on.
If there isn't any bait in the area you're probably pissing in the wind fishing there anyway
I've always had better luck chasing bait on foot in 1' of water than I have by boat in 6' of water. Yea it's nice throwing on a school of LY in open water and getting more bait in one throw than you can use in a week, and there are times when that's easy, but there is almost always bait near the shore and the grass. You may only net 10 per throw, but in a half hour or less you've got enough bait for the day doing that. I always carry a small dip net doing this too because you're almost certain to see some blue crabs using this method

She throws better than me. I found that video both emasculating and titillating.

She managed to make cast netting look hard AF lol. with that being said she opened that fricker all the way and that was a massive net.

Harder to catch bait during the day with cast net. They will scatter quickly.I always catch my bait while its still dark around lights on the canals, slips, etc.
Now, if the storm minnows are running thats a different story

No doubt, good grief.......I probably haven't thrown one in over a year and the first one out the gate was perfect.

Not nearly as good looking but this is how I throw my 10 footer. No nonsense, quick to load and easy to toss off the bow of a boat.
Easiest way to throw a cast net.

I used to be able to throw a cast net pretty well with the mouth method, but I quit doing that and haven't learned a better method yet.
This one looks pretty effortless. I like it.

Thanks for posting that. I can throw the hell out of a net that is under 6 feet using the "teeth" method, but once I start getting above 6 feet it tends to give me some trouble. I'm gonna try this.
