This is awesome.

quote:

No one will believe this story While going to College my buddy and I took off for a evening fishing trip to lake P. I keep a skift at Benny Larmann;s in Irish Bayou a marina that was there for over 70years. Trolling the lake we caught 17 trout with an average weight of 9 pounds. Benny a very good friend said it was the best bunch of trout he ever saw. My biggest was 12.2 and was on display at Professional's on Julia St for sever weeks on ice. This was 1963 right before gill nets. PS Campo shrimp were a dollar a hundred and Al Hirt use to rent a shift at Campo's every week. Every marina rented shifts for 5 dollars and had a hulk that would take your motor and put in on the shift. Boy how things have changed guess the size of trout will never be this big again. Also there were no back down all boats were put over by lift. Pip;s did have a make shift landing for duck hunter boats. Cop Cop Smith my fishing mentor for 35years and his brother Mike had a camp right next to Larmann;s marina.

Holy shite if true but pics don't lie.

Had about an hour and a half sit down with Capt. Dudley during a Christmas fundraiser and he told me all sorts of tales from big trout in holes in the lake to huge shrimp caught with castnets from the northshore seawall.

I'm not looking for inconsistencies in these old timers stories. I believe em.

I don't believe he stated that the pic was from the trip he was talking about although those are some logs on that table.

I was studying in a local library once and got bored. I started looking at titles and one old book caught my eye. It was an account of an early explorer of the North Shore.

In it, he mentions that the indians who lived on the lake would pull in cast nets full of "a large reddish colored fish" from the shore!
