Can someone explain why Springfield Armory had to create this apology video?

Wow, some people are angry.

It has to with the Illinois Gun Dealer Licensing Bill. A bill that put restrictions on gun dealers in the state. The Illinois Firearm Manufacturer’s Association traded their opposition of the bill in exchange for a carve-out for existing manufacturers. The Illinois Firearm Manufacturer’s Association took donations from Springfield and Rock River. Both companies claim they had no knowledge of the exemption being negotiated.

Who really knows what happened. Maybe they thought The Illinois Firearm Manufacturer’s Association was lobbying to get the bill pulled and they did the opposite, or they had knowledge of the exemption and didn't think the blowback would be what it is. Plausible Deniability

Creates the Gun Dealer Licensing Act. Provides that it is unlawful for a person to engage in the business of selling, leasing, or otherwise transferring firearms without a license issued by the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. Provides that a dealership agent other than a dealer licensee-in-charge may act on behalf of the licensed dealership without being licensed as a dealer under the Act.
