I try to bring as little as possible. Another option is a Moka pot. Makes excellent coffee and is small.

My sister had a moka pot on our first camping trip. The taste was great, but we had to keep making more. It was hard to do with a hot moka pot. I’m willing to sacrifice a little in quality to get several cups from a percolator.

I bring a French press when camping. Damn good coffee and is easy to make. Probably not enough servings for you though.

I don’t disagree with you. A French press makes some fine coffee, but like you said, I need more coffee than I’ll get with a French press. Plus, I would prefer not to bring glassware to the campsite.

I plan to get one for the house soon. However, my grandfather used a Coleman stove, and I like it for the nostalgia.

The older Coleman liquid fueled stoves were better built and put out more BTUs than propane stoves. And I’ll bet that’s what your grandfather used.

Seems like a whole lot of gear for camping. It’s not preferable to travel light?

We’re talking about car camping. Not backpacking. Why wouldn’t you bring certain luxuries if you’re just driving in?

Does your coleman stove use propane?

I've got a propane tank distributing tree. I screw my propane lantern on top and run a hose to my stove.

You can go for days and days with 5 gallons of propane. You can avoid spending more on green propane cans or save time from refilling.

My wife and I have a name for that...we call it going heavy, or going light.

That determines how much stuff we bring. As I get older I prefer going heavy and enjoying my time in the outdoors.

It does. That propane setup looks cool. I’ll look into getting one after we run out of those smaller green cylinders.

The best camping coffee setup is an Aeropress and a Jetboil. I highly recommend the jetboil for many other reasons besides coffee but it’ll have that water boiling before you get the simple aeropress setup completed.

I get that you’re not backpacking. Just seems like a lot of work. Lot of stuff to load up, set up, doing dishes, etc. Trying to take all the comforts of home to the outdoors. At some point you might as well just rent a hotel room.

I use the press that comes with the jetboil. I pretty much take my jetboil everywhere with me. Very useful.

That’s the nature of camping whether it’s ultralight or car camping. You have to build camp and then break it down either way. The good thing about car camping is I can just toss that shite in a drawer or tote and organize later

How important is it to place s tarp under the tent?

I always do. I have one that's a good bit bigger than my tent and I fold it up so that it's smaller if there's a threat of rain. No chance of rain I Leave it all big so I have a nice porch in the mornings. For summer camping, I like to put a very big tarp over my tent instead of the rain fly just like a roof a few feet over it. Gives me airflow and protection from rain, the tent is just for the bugs.

Learn how to tie friction hitches. One of the most fun things about camping is making sweet setups with tarps to suit your needs

I think this thread has uncovered the reason why I never really liked camping too much work

With the family, at least. I can go minimal if I'm camping with guys for a hunt, but with all the kids we bring more stuff to camp for 2 days than we do when we visit parents for a week.
