I bought a Sig P938 a year ago... I had probably only run 50-100 rounds on it until recently when I went to shoot it. I had so many FTE, it was sickening. Standard cheapo 9mm brass I was running through it. Of course, I'm no gunsmith so I intend to send it off. I already broke it down further than the booklet advises against.

After doing some quick googling, I can't find any definitive literature on WHAT the problem is, but it's clear I'm not the ONLY one that has had FTE issues. Any immediate suggestions?

Check the ejector and ejector spring first.

10-4. I have TRIED that but I'm not 100% sure what "perfect" shape would be. I'll look it over again.

I said ejector. Should have said extractor.

Also, google it. There is a good bit of info on this.

I was with you on that. I saw the diagram. I honestly don't know why i started the thread now. that seems super super obvious now. i just need to learn what 'stock' position and condition should look like compared to mine. thanks man.

So, it sat for a year.
Did you take it apart, clean, and oil it before your range trip?
Also, that's a compact 9mm - no offense to your ego, but are you limp wristing?

quote:

Standard cheapo 9mm brass I was running through it.

Probably not enough power to move the slide fully to the rear. The slide must go back far enough for the ejector to work properly.
Try running some 124 or 147 grain 9mm ammo. Usually, they do 115 most of the time, most short slide pistols do better with heavier rounds. The power of the slide cycle.
Keep in mind a compact gun uses heavier springs that wear in with use.

The slide has to move back far enough for the ejector to stick out.

It only sat for prob half a year between firings. It was well maintained and oiled. Not over oiled, etc.

I'm also thinking this guy on top... the ejector. like specifically the top part. if that's the same part as the image you linked.

Run some +P ammo or some 124 or 147 grain. It will probably work just fine.

It may, if I do that...but i REALLY do not want a gun that I have to second guess for a single reason. I need to feel 100% about this repair/fix if I keep it. If not, I got a 100 dollar off p938 for sale, fellas... or for trade :P

*edit*

appreciate all the quick responses btw.

1. Shoot some different ammo, including different bullet weights of quality ammo.
2. Have someone else you recognize as an experienced shooter to shoot it (rule out limp wristing).
3. If problems persist, contact Sig. I bet they'll do what's possible to make it right. If you send it back to them, be sure they give you a return shipping label so you don't have to pay the shipping.
4. It's frustrating having a gun you can't depend on, but it's been a long time since you last shot it. You've got time to make it right, IF you like the gun and can get past the initial frustration. No gun is perfect, even those from a reputable manufacturer like Sig. Your replacement could also have some sort of problem.

Keep us updated.

10-4. Will do. Really eager to get it home and strip it down again and compare each piece that could be involved to a factory new part. I'll post results.
