New to the quail-raising game, but thought my 30 or so bobwhites would be laying by now. I've seen them breed for the past 3-4 weeks, but no eggs to be found. Then yesterday as I went to feed them I finally found a single egg. Only one. Also found Mr. Cottonmouth slithering along the outside edge of the pen. Are quail just now beginning to lay, or is it possible the snake is eating the eggs??

Was not able to kill the thing before he slid off...

Do you have them paired or just all running together?

I think you pair or put 2 females per male in separate boxes.

A chicken snake yes, but I would'nt think a cotton mouth would climb up and eat eggs.

I'm just doing it to hatch a few to replace ones I eat. Strictly in it for the meat aspect.

I had some once JUST for the eggs. I like them pickled. Don't care for the meat cause I prefer dark meat. I am told that they are very good southern fried- whole.
